Location: Heritage Commons
Observation
The neighborhood is half-way built and is gated. On the side where it is built, all homes look nice and freshly painted. All have the same design except painted in different colors. Every town home has a one-car garage and also a small front yard that has a very low fence. All of the homes are two-stories. The neighborhood contains a small pool which is located in the front. Also, next to the pool is a playground for little kids. I been inside of couple of homes there and I have noticed that all of them have stairs right next to the front door leading to the second floor. Another observation is that a lot of cars are parked parallel with the street.
Speculation
I think the development is built there because it is a quite big area with great quality schools around it, stores and parks. This is probably the reason why the developer built the neighborhood there and not somewhere else. If you have schools, stores and public parks near the development, it would attract people to move there because is close to to.
Analysis
The neighborhood is there because in that area, you have all services and resources need for living. Basically, they built it there because the land was affordable. However, based on my interview, I learned that schools, stores and parks in that area also contributed to building the neighborhood in that spot.
Evaluation
Based on both my speculation and analysis, the neighborhood is located there so the residents can go to school and shop within minutes away. Everything is there and the developer probably thought that those factors would contribute to people moving there. In conclusion, it is a good location for a neighborhood because it is in middle of everything and I believe that where neighborhoods should be.
My neighborhood vs. Heritage Commons
My neighborhood is way different from Heritage Commons. To start off, my neighborhood is really small compared to Heritage Commons, and my neighborhood is pretty old, while, the other one is new. Also, my neighborhood consists of mostly Serbian people, however, the other one doesn't have a single Serbian family. My neighborhood doesn't have a lake or a playground like Heritage Commons does.

Chapter 1
What was the "Speedee Service System" and how was it different from what other fast food restaurants were doing?
The "Speedee Service System" was started by McDonald's and it was all about making and preparing food at a fast rate. The faster you make it, the bigger profit you make. Fast food restaurant would have each worker doing one task and one task only. However, other fast food restaurants would have one worker doing not just one task, but many different tasks at once. Food production would go a lot faster when you have one worker on each station.
What restaurant chain did Carl Karcher start?
Carl Karcher started a restaurant chain known as Carl's Jr. It was founded in 1941 in Los Angeles, California.

Chapter 10
In what ways might there be a connection between the obesity rate in America and the fast food industry?
There is a huge connection between the obesity rate in America and the fast food industry because people who eat fast food become obese. Fast food industry doesn't care about people's health, they all about making a big profit. So they will make food at a fast rate causing the food to be unhealthy and people are always in the rush in the United States so they stop by fast food joint. It has become a daily routine for some Americans to stop by McDonald's or any other fast food place and this is what causes them to become obese.
Why is obesity a problem for American society as a whole?
Obesity is a problem for the American society as a whole because obesity causes major health problems. If you are a person who is overweight, you are in a risk of getting heart disease and cancer. Also, if you are overweight, you can get diabetes and have strokes. Another issues that obesity causes is people making fun of overweight people. Chapter 9
What are some of the ways people can be infected with E. coli 0157:H7?
There are many ways people can be infected with E. coli 0157:H7. The most common way is people eating food that is contaminated with pathogens. This involves people eating raw or uncooked meat. Also if drinking raw milk, you can get infected with E. coli. Eating any kind of contaminated food and drinking any contaminated drinks can cause E. coli.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of irradiating meat?
Irradiating meat has its positive and negative side. The advantage of irradiating meat is that it makes the meat cleaner and safer to eat because it kills all the nasty bacteria. However, the negative side of irradiating meat is that these huge plants don't follow the cleaning process because they think that the bacteria would be dead after you radiate meat.

Chapter 8
What kinds of injuries do workers in meatpacking plants typically suffer?
In meatpacking plants, workers suffer all kinds of injuries from small cuts to severe problems. Cuts are the most common because workers through out the day keep cutting meat non-stop. Shoulder and back problems are also common in meatpacking plants. The workers would be bending over the tables to cut the meat through out the day so they start to have issues with their back. The author also states that workers would get something known as "trigger finger". It's when their finger is frozen and can't be moved. Workers would also get carpal tunnel syndrome.
What does the author describe as the most dangerous type of work in these plants and what kinds of injuries do these workers risk?
The author states that the most dangerous type of work in these plants is the work that the late night cleaning crew does. After everyone leaves the plant, they come in and clean after the workers. They would use high pressure hose with extremely hot water to clean machines that are covered in blood and animal parts. While hosing down disgusting blood and animal parts, the factory would become foggy so visibility is poor. The worst part about this job is cleaning the conveyor belts. The crew would stand on these belts that are high above the ground and moving, and would clean them. The injuries that these workers risk are falling off the machines and braking something or possibly dying. Also, if it's foggy inside the plant, they might not see and run into something.

Chapter 7
What changes did IBP introduce to the meat packing industry?
IBP made many changes to the meat packing industry. One change IBP made was they developed a faster way to package meat. For example, they developed a disassembly line which cut and package meat at a very fast rate. This was a lot quicker than if you had people doing it instead of machines. Another change that IBP introduced was they moved the slaughter houses from urban areas to rural areas. Many changes that IBP introduced to the meat packing industry was to increase the rate at which meat is packaged and to increase their profit.
Why were newer meat packing plants located in rural areas rather than in cities?
The newer packing plants are located in rural areas rather than in cities because the plants wanted to get farther away from nation's labor unions. These unions want to stop these plants because the conditions in the plants were horrible, so the plants try to avoid the unions as much as possible. Also, newer plants were located in rural areas because the smell from dead animals was exteremly horrific so in rural areas, it wasn't a problem to anyone.

Chapter 6
What are some of the problems facing cattle ranchers?
Cattle ranchers now a days face many problems from rising land prices all the way to health scares about beef. Ranchers look to have a big amount of land for their cattle, however, with the price of the land increasing, they cant afford to buy more land. Another problem that ranchers face is the increase of development. As new cities, buildings and highways are being built, there is less land available for ranchers and their cattle. Increased shipment of cattle from different countries is another problem that ranchers in the US face. For example, United States is receiving cattle from Mexico and Canada because it is cheaper than buying cattle from ranchers living in the United States. Finally, the last problem the cattle ranchers face is that many ranchers don't earn enough money and become poor. This causes them to sell their cattle at very low price and run out of business.
How does the suicide rate for ranchers and farmers compare with the rate for U.S. citizens in general?
The suicide rate for ranchers and farmers compare with the rate for U.S. citizens is that the rate for ranchers/farmers is three times higher than the rate for U.S. citizens. I believe that this is a very important issue that needs to be closely looked at. However, in the book it states that this statistic is ignored and I believe it is wrong of people to just ignore it. The suicide rate of farmers and ranchers is slowly and steadily increasing. Their traditional way of living is being destroyed. They try so hard to become successful and at the end, they have nothing and this is the reason why suicides are occurring.
